Franchising Growing As Alternative For Many Managers

Many managers often think about alternative careers.  For some, franchising offers an appealing avenue to build new careers and assets.

For professional managers, experts agree that the best franchises are those that draw on their experiences and skills.

In a survey conducted by this newsletter's parent, Information Strategies, Inc. (ISI), 51% of managers polled said they had investigated franchising as an option either for a post-retirement activity or as a new career.

Of those that had investigated franchising, 71% said they preferred franchises that offered them the opportunity to draw on their past experiences.

Among the top categories were accounting (42%), consulting and advisory services (13%), and service companies (12%).

The growth of tax preparation franchising was noted by 31% of all respondents who thought that these franchises offered good value.

The three decision criterias cited in the study were reputation of the franchiser; cost of start-up and supporting services.

Among the franchises sited in the study was Liberty Tax, which was listed as a possible choice by one in ten respondents.

The study covered 751 managers and was conducted in June and July of this year.
