Hispanic Business Leaders Believe Economic Downturn Will Affect Their Firms

A quick survey by this newsletter shows that Hispanic business leaders in general feel they will be materially hurt by the wild gyrations on Wall Street.

Hispanic Biz Digest conducted a telephone poll of 301 Hispanic business leaders who reported that:

  • 62% said they expected their businesses to have some fall-off in sales for the remainder of the year.
  • 75% said they thought the fall-off would continue into 2009
  • 82% said they believed Hispanic workers would be more affected than the population as a whole by the economic downturn.
  • 91% said they had heard of layoffs involving Hispanic families this month.
  • 54% blamed financial speculators for the problems.
  • 62% said they felt the government had not done enough to prevent rampant speculation.

The survey was conducted over three days beginning September 15th,
